Basic Safety Training
General information
The STCW Basic Safety Training (BST) is a compulsory international basic course for anyone working on board a ship, which teaches participants how to respond to emergencies and fires, and how to survive at sea following a shipwreck, including first aid, firefighting and personal safety, in order to comply with the requirements of the international STCW Convention.
Extra: Participants in our Basic Safety Course also receive a BHV certificate and can also obtain a Deckhand certificate .
Who is the training intended for?
For all personnel on seagoing vessels, including merchant shipping and commercial yachts. A Basic Safety certificate is mandatory for all such personnel.
Admission requirements
- You are a current or former student of the KZV or GZV.
- You have a valid maritime medical examination.
Course content
The course lasts four days; the topics covered during these four days are:
Basic safety theory
Firefighting including practical exercises
