BBZ
The BBZ is the trade association for professional sailing and motor passenger shipping.
The Enkhuizen Nautical College maintains close contacts with the BBZ. Where possible, the BBZ and the Nautical College support each other, exchange knowledge, and keep each other informed of changes in laws and regulations. A valuable industry partner.
More about the BBZ
The BBZ exists for its members. Members include: ship owners, shipping companies, skippers, and all other professional mariners.
For its members, the BBZ maintains contact with the relevant authorities, harbours and ports, and insurers. The organisation provides advice, supports initiatives such as the credit union, and provides training. It also monitors laws and regulations for both employers and staff.
The BBZ speaks with the government on behalf of its members and thus influences policy. Whether it concerns the waterways and plans to install solar panels there, or bridge openings: the BBZ is at the table or joins uninvited. In this capacity, the BBZ also holds discussions with the government regarding technical rules and manning requirements. They are committed to keeping regulations workable and ensuring they align with the unique nature of the vessels and their operational use.
The association’s influence is visible in areas such as enforcement and inspection, and the role of classification societies, insurers, and other agencies. They have already achieved various successes, such as special regulations for offshore sailing, the retention of doubling plates on inland waterway vessels, the sailing certificate, special European rules for small passenger shipping in Europe, a chapter for historic inland vessels, and facilities in Dutch inland ports (e.g., Pontsteiger in Amsterdam) or on the Marker Wadden….
