Confidential Counselor

A confidential counselor is available for the professional sailing industry. Because as beautiful as the industry is, sometimes things do not go the right way.

A confidential counselor is an impartial point of contact at work for employees dealing with undesirable behavior (such as bullying, harassment, discrimination) and provides a safe place to talk, listen, advise, guide, and refer to formal or informal solutions, where confidentiality is crucial.

A registration form will be placed on this page for situations in the workplace involving undesirable behavior by a colleague or supervisor.

What a confidential counselor does:

• Support & Assistance:
  Provides a listening ear and emotional support to employees who feel unsafe.
• Advising:
  Provides advice on the situation and possible next steps, both informal (conversation) and formal (complaint procedure).
• Guidance:
  Helps the reporter through the process, for example by brainstorming the approach or being present during conversations.
• Referral:
  Refers to other aid agencies if necessary, such as a mediator or occupational physician.
• Providing Information:
  Informs employees and supervisors about preventing undesirable behavior.
• Identifying & Reporting:
  Identifies trends and bottlenecks within the organization and advises management, without breaching confidentiality (unless permission is given).

What can you contact a confidential counselor for?

• Bullying, aggression, violence
• Sexual harassment and unwanted advances
• Discrimination
• Other undesirable behaviors and integrity issues.

Important to know:

• Confidential: Everything you share remains between you and the confidential counselor (with the exception of specific legal limitations in case of danger).
• Impartial: The confidential counselor stands alongside the reporter, not on behalf of the employer.
• The reporter is in control: The reporter always determines the next steps themselves.
