General information
Depending on the vessel, one or more crew members on board inland waterway vessels must hold a valid BHV (Emergency Response Officer) certificate.
The BHV course at the Enkhuizen Nautical College is specifically designed for inland waterway and passenger vessels.
Who is the training intended for?
For anyone who needs BHV training or a renewal of their certificate.
Admission requirements
- At least 16 years old.
Group course
Do you have a group of at least 10 people who need to follow a BHV (refresher) course?
This is possible outside the regularly scheduled dates. Contact the office and we can plan a course for you!

Course content
The course lasts one day; the topics covered that day are:
Theory of evacuation and alarms on board
Acting during emergencies, dealing with passengers during emergencies
Firefighting including practical exercises
Fire theory, practice with fire extinguishers, extinguishing agents, escape routes, and fire risks
First aid, theory and practice
CPR, use of AED, approaching a victim, wounds, hypothermia, accidents occurring on board
