Radar Navigator Operational Level. Voor studenten KZV is in de aanloop naar een bekwaamheidsbewijs deze cursus verplicht vanaf leergang 2026-2027. Voor een GZV bekwaamheidsbewijs is deze cursus al verplicht.
LET OP: de cursus zit nog in de verkenningsfase. Zodra dit afgerond is kun je je inschrijven.
Who is the training intended for?
For all personnel on seagoing vessels, including merchant shipping and yachts.

Course content
The course lasts three days; the topics covered are:
- Radar principles – radar operation, radar image, range, resolution, and limitations.
- Radar interpretation – recognizing and interpreting echoes, land, ships, and other objects.
- Positioning – determining your own position using radar, including bearings and range measurements.
- Radar as a navigational aid – determining course and speed and monitoring the progress of the voyage.
- Radar plotting – analyzing the movements of other vessels and determining CPA/TCPA.
- Collision avoidance – using radar for timely risk recognition and taking appropriate maneuvers.
- ARPA basics – use and interpretation of automatic tracking, vectors, CPA/TCPA, and target information.
- Navigation in restricted visibility – using radar when visual navigation is limited or not possible.
- Operational procedures – correct radar settings, systematic observation, and combining radar with other navigational aids.
- Practical application – translating radar observations into concrete navigational decisions and safe bridge operations.
